Trump’s malfeasance

Posted

Recently I encountered a letter in the WVT which purported to explain why Trump supporters still support him. It was revealing in that the exclusive reason given for continued support for a failed leader is that, “...the country (is) being taken away from us...” and Trump will prevent that from happening. The letter cites no actual policy or achievement of the Trump administration which the writer supports.

This is not hard to understand given the 150,000 Americans have died from COVID which Trump could have prevented, or at least mitigated.

Millions of people face impoverishment from job losses due to the virus, and there is Trump’s treasonous failure to sanction Russia when he learned that Russia was offering the Taliban a bounty for killing American service personnel. The list of failures is too long for this letter.

Instead of accomplishments, Trump offers his supporters lies and fantasy about restoring their “rightful” place in a bygone world. With astonishing gullibility, Trump’s dystopian view is accepted. Why? Trump supporters are putting their wishful thinking ahead of the actual national interest. The writer of the letter even states that they do not care about evidence of Trump’s malfeasance, or incompetence. They just want their country back. While I can understand why people voted for Trump in 2016, we are now into almost 4 years of his lies, cowardice, bigotry, environmental destruction, and repudiation of our allies. I too want our country back, one with competent leadership, not full of disease, unemployment, and divisive rhetoric and conduct. We should want a country which is respected abroad and not taken advantage of by Russia and China, one in which there is hope for the future and mutual respect among the citizenry.

I suggest that Trump supporters should want the same.
