Thomas H. Wilson, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Saturday, December 23, 2023. He was 89.

Son of the late Howard and Fannie (Downbrough) Wilson, he was born on August 4, 1934 in Newburgh.

A lifelong area resident, “Tom” as he was known to family and friends grew up in Newburgh and attended Newburgh Schools and was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. He proudly went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959 serving on the USS Salem #CA 139. He was a store manager for Grand Union Supermarkets, Washingtonville and department manager for the Cornwall store, retiring after 33 years of service. After his retirement from Grand Union he further went on to work at the Newburgh Auto Auction for more than 20 years. Tom loved dirt track racing and NASCAR. He was a crew member for Bobby Green Racing #69 for 23 years.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia L. (Thomas) Wilson; three stepsons, Randy Hunt of NY, Jeffery Hunt of NC and Gary Hunt of FL; five stepdaughters, Peggy (Tom) Scalli of NY, Barbara (Brian) Ferguson of NC, Karen (Andrew) Csisack of NY, Virginia (David) Sandoval of PA and Susan (John) Manning of NC; fourteen step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren. Tom loved his stepchildren as his own and they loved him just as much. 

In addition to his parents Tom was predeceased by a son, Thomas H. Wilson, Jr. in 2021, a daughter, Tammy Wilson, a stepdaughter, Debra Anniballi; and a sister Gladys.

A funeral service was held on  December 28,at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, Newburgh. Burial with Military Honors was at Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor.
