The Shawangunk Dems and A Caucus

Posted

There has been much confusion in Shawangunk regarding the Republican primary and how that relates to the Democrats. I would like to clear this up. With challenges to positions within the Republican party, the town got permission from the Ulster County Board of Elections to hold a primary allowing them early voting as well as a designated day for Republicans only to vote.

The Shawangunk Dems only have to hold a caucus in which an officially registered Democrat MUST BE present in order to vote for a candidate.

Candidates are nominated and voted on during that time. If there is a challenger, a formal vote must ensue. Our caucus is Saturday, July 8 at 4 p.m. in the Walker Valley School House right off State Route 52 and Marl Road.
