State Police arrest two following rape investigation in Shawangunk

On July 15, State Troopers from the Highland barracks, along with officers from the Shawangunk Police Department, responded to a local residence in the town of Shawangunk for a report of a sexual assault.

Investigation revealed that Ronald Paul Dean, age 26, from the hamlet of Wallkill sexually assaulted an individual at the residence. Lawrence James Wilson, age 27, also from the hamlet of Wallkill, sexually assaulted a different person along with Dean while at the residence. Wilson was charged with Rape 1st degree. Dean was charged with Rape 1st degree and Criminal Sex Act 1st degree.

Wilson was arrested on July 16 and arraigned at Town of Plattekill Court by Judge Maciocia and remanded to Ulster County Jail on $25,000 cash bail, $50,000 secured bond and $100,000 partially secured surety bond.

Dean was arrested on July 19 and arraigned at Town of Plattekill Court by Judge Maciocia and remanded to Ulster County Jail on $10,000 cash bail, $25,000 secured bond, and $50,000 partially secured surety bond.

On July 25, Wilson and Dean were both indicted for Rape First Degree and Criminal Sexual Act First Degree, Acting in Concert, by the Ulster County Grand Jury.

State Troopers were assisted in this investigation by the Shawangunk Police Department, Walden Police Department and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
