Potential self storage units coming to Crawford

A new self storage area, under TMD Enterprises, could be coming to Crawford on Route 302 and Ulsterville Road.

The storage facility would consist of four buildings around 12,000 square feet each. The project will have 88 storage units, with a gate, fencing, and room to pull off the road into the site safely.

Back in October, when presented the first time, the planning board had stormwater design and road issues. The board mainly worried about the traffic it would cause because the building would be along a main road. Chairman Linda Zwart also suggested they do a more substantial monument sign.

Engineer for the project, Zachary Peters of MNTM, said their newer site plan would make for much less clearing and have less impact on wetlands. “They were trying to keep the building as close to [Route] 302’s side of the site as possible just just for the visibility there,” said Peters, who explained they shifted the building a bit closer to Route 302.

The board also went over sprucing up the 302 side of the site with different landscaping ideas like deciduous trees.

“The idea was just to kind of supplement what’s out there with some deciduous trees and let them grow up,” said Peters.

Zwart mentions they need to see elevations, lighting and a revised concept plan before planning a public hearing. TMD Enterprises is on the agenda for their next planning board meeting on March 8 with hopes to then receive a public hearing from the board.
