Peter D. Conroy of Montgomery, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the age of 82.

Peter was the son of the late Robert Conroy and Maisie Horton Conroy, born on February 27, 1939 in Middletown.

Peter was active in the Montgomery community and was a lifetime member of the Montgomery Fire Department. After graduating from Montgomery High School Pete went to college in Arizona and graduated from OCCC. Peter served in the US Army in Germany from 1962-1964. He loved Montgomery and after always wanting to, opened up a bar there in the 90’s. He worked for the New Hampton Training School, the Maybrook Railroad and for many years, worked for Brescia Lumber. He later went on to build houses in and around Montgomery. Pete was one of the most selfless people we knew. He gave to so many, never expecting anything in return.

His favorite role was papa. He loved going to watch Jonathan play ball and letting his Madelyn get away with everything. He and his wife Patricia loved taking long car rides and in his later years, they enjoyed sitting and watching the golfers play at Stony Ford. Pete himself was quite the athlete in his heyday, especially basketball and he always enjoyed a good golf match with friends.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Richards Conroy; his stepsons, Patrick and Brian Kiernan both of Montgomery, NY; stepdaughter, Colleen Gleason and husband Aaron of Lagrangeville, NY; grandson, Staff Sergeant Jonathan M. Kiernan, USMC; granddaughter Madelyn E. Gleason. He is also survived by brothers, Richard (Diane) Conroy of Jeffersonville, NY and Kevin (Barbara) Conroy of Montgomery, NY as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert “Chip” Conroy.

Peter will be cremated with burial at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery at a later date. There will be a celebration of his life this summer at The Gleason’s. His favorite girl in the whole world was his Madelyn. He would have enjoyed a summer party where she gets to swim in her pool.

Arrangements were made by Millspaugh Funeral Directors.
