Montgomery welcomes new village trustee

Posted

After a landslide election, newly instated Village of Montgomery trustee Randi Picarello earned a round of applause at her swearing-in last week.

Picarello is now officially a trustee for the Village of Montgomery after months of knocking on doors and meeting with local residents. She originally announced her intent to run back in January, after realizing her familiarity and presence with local boards sort of made her a liaison for community members. Shortly after, she gained the attention of many with a lengthy campaign including coffee meetings and signs all over the village.

Though Picarello originally felt nervous to take on the role, she mentioned this faded when she was sworn in. She then felt ready to “get to work.”

She is coming into a busy time including talks about the budget and new developments in the area. When asked about her goals, Picarello mentioned that she is most focused on getting to know the ways of the board itself.

“My goals for my first year is to really learn the ins and outs of how our local government works. Also, I can see if there are any places where I can lend my experience or opinion to improve the day to day goings on,” said Picarello.

A few of the specific topics she mentioned working on were improving parks and recreation programs for local youth, as well as bettering sidewalks and parking in the village.

Trustee Darlene Andolsek and Mayor L. Stephen Brescia were also sworn in, although Andolsek performed hers before the meeting.

The next village board of trustees meeting will take place Thursday, April 13 at 7 p.m. and will include a tentative budget hearing.
