Montgomery honors 29-year postal carrier

Posted

While she’s only been full-time with the Town of Montgomery Postal Service for 23 years, Robin Cozzette has been a postal carrier for almost 30, sometimes going to weddings and BBQs for people along her route.

Middletown resident Cozzette was named Montgomery’s May citizen of the month for her service to the town and long-lasting friendships with residents. Though she grew up in Pine Bush, she loves her “route family” and serving the community.

“They are like family to me. I refer to them as my route family,” said Cozzette.

Outside of work, Cozzette values her volunteer time, spending a lot of hours with Will Spay Pets Inc., a group that donates to the town in order to provide more affordable spay/neuter prices. She speaks extremely highly of her time here, noting that it’s extremely important what they provide for cats. “When they [people] start feeding them, a lot of people don’t realize the importance of fixing them too,” said Cozzette.

Cozzette often fosters cats, having four fostered with her currently. Luckily, she has found homes for them. She spends countless hours saving and homing stray cats, often using her own funds to do so.

She also works with animal organization Helpers With Heart, alongside a friend, to go outside of Montgomery and Crawford’s jurisdiction to other places like Newburgh and Middletown.

Cozzette also plays in the Pine Bush and Maybrook softball leagues which she describes as “a lot of fun.”

When considering being nominated, Cozzette mentioned being grateful, but humble.

“I’m grateful to be nominated [but] I’m humbled. I’m really humbled because there’s so many other people out there that do much more than I do,” said Cozzette.

Cozzette lives at home with her husband and three cats.
