Merry Christmas from Trump

Posted

Recently Donald Trump wished his donors and sycophants a Merry Christmas. To most others he hoped they’d “Rot in Hell”! This is what he offered our country during the Christmas season, a time of good cheer. Contrast Trump’s sentiment with that of Abraham Lincoln in his second inaugural address where he offered, “malice toward none and charity to all”. These words were spoken as the bloody Civil War was ending and many people in the North sought retribution. Instead, Lincoln offered peace. Trump’s “Christmas” sentiment is that of a despot, a demagogue, a dangerous, vengeful person who lacks basic human empathy. Lincoln was one of our greatest Presidents, having a keen intellect as well as a strong moral sense. Trump lacks these qualities, and instead, he confuses vulgarity with strength, “tough talk” with courage, and he puts his pitiful needs above the national interest. In order to support Trump one must either embrace his dictatorial ways or overlook them. Either way, doing so is morally and politically indefensible. It is time to move on to candidates who do not threaten us and who support democracy.
