Maude Corbett Pearl Ciccone, a woman of indomitable strength and unwavering devotion, mother to all, died on February 7, 2024. She was 97. Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all privileged to know her.
Born to James William Corbett and Florence Atkins Corbett in Watford, England, Maude cherished her upbringing. One of eight siblings, she was a pioneer of the Great Generation and did not shy away from hard work. She navigated life's challenges with determination and class. As a toddler, she embarked on a transatlantic voyage with her parents, ultimately settling in the United States, where she would etch her legacy of love and resilience. Her brother James (Jim) and sister Elizabeth (Betty) stayed behind in England, where descendants of the family reside today.
Maude moved to Montgomery. NY as a child and eventually began her career as an elevator operator at the Park Sheraton Hotel in New York City. She later ran Phase II Salon in Walden and sold home products and achieved top sales recognition.
Maude married Jerry Pearl in 1949 and the two resided in Newburgh.Together the couple owned the Pearl Bus Station, family-owned and operated by three generations of the Pearl family. She was famous for open-house events that so many friends and neighbors would attend - she was revered for her culinary prowess. She always had a cup of coffee brewing and welcomed everyone, from the mail carrier to the passing neighbor, in for a moment of community. In 1985, Maude experienced the profound loss of her beloved husband, Jerry, whose memory remained a source of solace and inspiration throughout her life's journey. In 1995, she was joined in marriage to Rocco Ciccone, whose companionship brought joy and fulfillment to her in later years.
Maude was the epitome of a cherished matriarch, adored by her two sons, Steven Pearl and his wife Susan, and Jeffrey Pearl and his wife Christine, all from Newburgh. They lovingly recall her unwavering support, sage wisdom, and unconditional love. Her devotion extended to her five beloved grandchildren: Stefanie Pearl-Kostenblatt and her husband James, Jeremy Pearl, Nicole Pearl, Timothy Pearl and his wife Emily, and Amanda Pearl who were the recipients of her boundless affection and cherished memories. Seven great-grandchildren blessed Maude immensely. She also leaves behind two sisters, Olive Jollie (New York) and Florence Traut (Maryland), beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were like family. She is predeceased by Jerry (1985) and Rocco D. Ciccone (2011), her loving second husband.
Maude's presence illuminated the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her earnest demeanor, joyous laughter, and unvanquished spirit endeared her to friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. Whether offering a comforting embrace or imparting words of wisdom, Maude's famous late-night chat, cup-of-tea, and card game - which she nearly always won - were some of her most fulfilling moments. She left an indelible imprint on the hearts of all whom she encountered.
A private family ceremony will be held. A community-attended Memorial will be announced soon, allowing family and friends to gather and pay tribute. May her memory be for a blessing, may she be surrounded by the love and gratitude of all who knew her.
