Honor Carl Helstrom

To the members of the Montgomery Town Board and all members of the Township:

I find it hard to believe that the town has not honored the name of Carl Helstrom nine years after his passing.

Here was a man who spent 44 years of his life in the service of the town. First, as a councilman from 1956 to 1971, then as supervisor from 1975 to 2000. I am sure, being a conservative person, in those 25 years as supervisor, there were many balanced budgets and ratable development to keep taxes as low as possible. It was during the time Carl was supervisor, the Government Center was purchased, and, being a conservative person, the price must have been right for the town.

Regardless of party affiliation, recognition of 44 years of service is deserved. It would be a fitting gesture to name the government building after Carl. There is room on the facade for Carl H. Helstrom, 44 years of service. I believe he should be recognized in this way.

Thank you for your consideration of this proposal.
