Helen M. Palen, of Morris, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at home in Gilbertsville, N.Y. Helen was born on April 8th, 1930 in Wallkill, NY to the late Harry A. Morehouse and Florence E. (VanWyck) Morehouse. On April 2, 1950 she married Wallace K. Palen in Wallkill. Together they shared 71 years of marriage.
Helen graduated from Wallkill Senior High School and attended Krisslers Business School in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was employed as a secretary for George W. Parlimen for over 20 years and retired from Goddefroy Car Company in 1996.
Helen was known for her beautiful voice. She was often called upon to sing at weddings and other events. Helen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville, and the Butternut Valley Grange.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Donna Clark (Louis Mastronardi); Starlight, PA; son, Alan D. (Bonnie) Palen; Montgomery, NY, Daughter, Laure J. Palen; Saugerties, NY; Daughter, Amy P. (Edward) O’Hearn, Center Harbor, NH.; son, Leslie Keaton Palen; Morris, NY. Grandchildren; Jennie C. (Glenn) Kildare, Danielle P. (Forbes) Riva, Kerri (Bill) Mendrcycki, Tami Rhinehart, Ali Bachowski (Alex), Geri Dedi, Emma O’Hearn, Lauren O’Hearn and 16 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces, and nephews. Helen is predeceased by her husband Wallace K. Palen; her son, Douglas George Palen; sister, Losi M. Morris; and brother Dr. Chauncey A. Morehouse.
Her memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville will be held privately and at the convenience of her family.
