Happy Holidays from the Walden Community Council

Members of the Walden Community Council held their December meeting at the Jacob T. Walden House on December 13 and enjoyed holiday decorations, fellowship and great refreshments while making plans for 2024. Their next meeting will be on March 13, 2024.

Thank you to the Walden Rotary Club for coordinating volunteers for bell ringing outside the Thruway Sporting Goods Store in Walden and outside the ShopRite SuperMarket in Montgomery every weekend to raise funds for the Salvation Army. It was a very rewarding experience.

Family, friends and members of Most Precious Blood Church look forward to sending “Happy Birthday” greetings to Rev. Thomas Colucci, Pastor, on December 20. We wish him all life’s best!
Walden Rotary Club members send Happy Anniversary greetings to Al and Flo Valk on December 26 and thank Al for all he does for this great organization.

Village offices will be closed on December 25 and December 26. Merry Christmas!

Walden’s Leadership day will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, 6:30 p.m., 3rd floor Bradley Assembly Room, Municipal Building. You are invited to attend and pay tribute to the following honorees: Greyson Sager will receive the Ronald I. Jacobowitz Youth Leadership Award; Mark and Courtney Grogen will receive the Midge Norman Volunteer of the Year Award; Blue Fox Books will receive the Community Business of the Year Award; the Walden Historical Society will receive the Sam Phelps Service Award.

Catholic Conversations will not meet in December but will meet on January 25, 2024 at 7 p.m. in Father Sullivan Hall at M. P. B. Church. For more information, please call Larry and Jean Winum at 845-778-1602. We choose a new topic every month for discussion. All are invited to attend.

The 2024 Lottery calendars offered by the Walden Community Council continues to be available for purchase at the front desk of the Walden Library. The price is $20 per calendar; chose your lucky number from 000 to 999. The daily winning number matches the NY Lottery Numbers drawing. You will have a chance to win every day of 2024 with the exception of Christmas Day.

The daily winning is $20, Sunday is $40 and each holiday as marked on the calendar is $75 with New Years Eve being $100. You may win more than once.

Village of Walden Pickleball is held at Wooster Memorial Grove Park at the John H. Howland Teen Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Session 1 - 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. Session 2 - 12 - 3 p.m. $10 per person. Questions? Contact (845) 778-2177 Ext 1527.

December 21 is the first day of Winter. Be reminded that it is unlawful for any person to park, place or leave their automobile, truck or any other vehicle on any public road or street in the Village of Walden after snowfall of 2 inches or more. Vehicles will be ticketed and towed at owners’ expense. Snow parking rules will remain in effect until snowfall has ceased and all snow has been removed from public streets.

It shall be the duty of the owner and occupant, jointly, of every parcel of real estate adjoining a public sidewalk, to keep such sidewalks adjoining such property free from snow and ice for the full width of such sidewalk or for minimum width of four feet, whichever is less. Owners and occupants of corner properties shall have additional and continual duty to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks to the curbs for a minimum of four feet so as to provide safe access to the streets. Snow and ice shall be removed within 24 hours after the end of a snowfall.

The Family Holiday Movie is scheduled for Wednesday evening, December 20, 6 p.m., 2nd floor Community Room.

The Library will close at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday,December 21, for Staff Development.
The Library will be closed on Monday 25, for Christmas Day, reopening on Tuesday, December 26.

The Library Board of Trustees and Staff wish everyone a Happy Holiday and Merry Christmas!
