Gas odor prompts evacuation in Coldenham

In response to reports of a gas odor, the Coldenham Fire Department successfully addressed a potential danger at a mixed-use occupancy on Route 17K near Didio Lane on New Year’s Day.

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on January 1, Coldenham Fire Department received a dispatch concerning an outside odor of gas at the specified location. Upon arrival, Coldenham units discovered a strong natural gas odor in the vicinity. Firefighters swiftly began investigating the odor, both inside and outside one of the occupancies.

Central Hudson was requested to the scene and the two buildings involved were evacuated. With the assistance of Central Hudson, the leak was isolated to outside the buildings and both occupancies were allowed to reoccupy.

The incident involved the operational presence of Car 1, Tower Ladder 205, Rescue 208 and Engine 204 from Coldenham Fire Department.

Coldenham Fire Department seized the opportunity to remind the public that if they ever detect a gas odor inside or outside, it is imperative to dial 911.
