With great sorrow, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Elizabeth M. (Betty Pine) Maher, aged 93, who returned home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 26, 2022, following a brief time of care at the Kaplan Residence Hospice of Orange in Newburgh.

Betty, born in New Windsor, NY, was the fifth child of Alice and Lawrence C. Youlio, and the widow of Raymond G. Pine and Roger E. Maher Sr.

First widowed at the young age of forty-four following the sudden death of the love of her life, Raymond, mom raised her and Ray’s seven children, often working multiple jobs to provide a loving home and necessities of life. Her great faith in God and her particular devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary are from whom she claimed she received her strength to carry on, one day at a time. Mom was always good natured, cheerful, enjoyed a good laugh, and loved spending time with family and friends. “The more the merrier” was her motto. Her generosity knew no bounds and her heart always had room left over to love.

Years after the children were raised and successfully on their own, Mom married Roger E. Maher, Sr. and enjoyed over twenty years together traveling and enjoying life near Myrtle Beach until his untimely passing, whereby she returned to Montgomery to be closer to most of her family.

We were blessed to have her with us for so many years. She was our rock and the soul of our family. Although our hearts are broken, we know she rests in perfect peace in the arms of the Lord and in the company of her loved ones who went before her.

Betty was the widow of Raymond G. Pine, and is survived by her children: Diane Gollow, Nancy Pine, Brian (Dr. Diane Pine) Pine, Lori (Peter) Schmidt all of Montgomery, Alison (Steven) Dabroski of Walden, NY, Francis (Rosemarie) Pine, Little River, SC; siblings John (Lorraine) Youlio of Spring Hills, FL, Patricia Mullarkey of New Windsor, NY, Robert (Cheryl) Youlio of Montgomery, NY; 13 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren.

She was also the widow of Roger E. Maher Sr. and is also survived by five step-children: Lorraine F. (William) Riley, Joanne E. Maher, Carolyn M. (Lazlow) Bardos, Sally Jane McKenna, Roger E. (Ann T.) Maher, Jr; 10 Step Grandchildren; 4 Step Great Grandchildren.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory numerous beloved nieces, nephews, Godchildren and dear friends.

Preceding her in death are her husband and the father of their seven children Raymond G. Pine, son James Theodore (Teddy) Pine, sister Doris Y. Weiner and brother-in-law Seymour (Bud) Weiner, sister Eleanor Grimaldi and brother-in-law Matthew Grimaldi, brother Lawrence M. Youlio and sister-in-law Mary L. Youlio, nephew Lawrence J. Youlio, brother William Youlio, sister Loretta (Lee) Youlio, brother-in-law Jack Mullarkey, sister and brother-in-law Shirley and James Smith and niece Sharon J. Smith, brother and sister in law William and Delia Pine, nephew Robert Pine, son-in-law Stephen V. Gollow.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Dawn Schwartz, mom’s personal caregiver, who gave care and love to our mother, as a daughter would. We are grateful for and appreciated the at home visits of Sister Ann Daly and the Hospice of Orange team who provided much comfort to mom and our family.

There will be no visitation.

A Mass of Christian burial will be said on Saturday, February 5, at 11am, at Holy Name of Mary Church, 89 Union St., Montgomery.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Montgomery.
