Donna Cook born September 16, 1935 in Montclair, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2020 in Newburgh, NY.

Survivors include her son Kevin Cook and his wife Becky of Ormond Beach, FL, her daughter Kathy “Cookie” Cook of Chester, NY, her son Darren Cook and his partner Joshua Vaselewski of Kingston, NY, daughter Terri Cook of Newburgh, NY and her companion David Hopkins; her granddaughters Kristy D’Amico and her husband Domenico of Wallkill, NY and Michelle Chiaramonte and her husband Anthony of Maybrook, NY; her great grandchildren Mikayla and Parker D’Amico and Julian and Lorenzo Chiaramonte.

Also, special extended family Gaby Martino, Nancy Oetzel, Shannon and Chris Rodriguez, The Oscar Miller cousins of Goshen, NY. Gale Stagg, Charlotte Schof and Carol Dineen and the beloved Colden Park neighbors, all of whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by her parents Mary I and W. Donald “Bud” Hohwald, her husband Thomas J. Cook, her son Dale Cook and her daughter-in-law Diane Dineen.

Donna had a deep love of her family and friends.

Donna loved her job and coworkers as secretary to the Chief of Police in the Town of Newburgh, as well as her volunteer work as an EMT for the Town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

She loved the beach, sports, and music. She was an athlete and a musician. She loved playing the trumpet in her high school marching band. She was a huge JETS fan. She was also able to fulfill a dream of hers when she joined the Beacon Sloop club, where she spent time with Pete Seeger and was a crew member who sailed the “Woodie Guthrie” sloop on the Hudson River.

Donna has touched many lives and will be greatly missed. We will hold her in our hearts forever and celebrate her life.

Our sincere gratitude for the staff at Sapphire Nursing at Meadow Hill in Newburgh for all they did with great care and compassion. Our mom was in good hands, which was very comforting.

A celebration of her life will take place at a future date.

Entombment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, NY.
