Convicted sex offender charged with rape

A convicted sex offender was charged last Wednesday with rape by the Town of Montgomery police.


On August 21, 2019 the Town of Montgomery Police Department conducted an investigation of allegations of a sexual assault, according to Investigator Stephen Ragni. The assault allegedly took place between July and August on more then one occasion involving a person under 13 years of age.


Police charged Jeremiah C. Hochteil, 35, of Montgomery with rape, a class b felony, and predatory sexual assault of a child for prior convictions, a class two felony.


Hochteil was remanded to the Orange County Jail with no bail.


The investigation is ongoing with the possibility of other victims, Ragni said.


Hochteil moved to an address on Berea Road in Walden in Oct. 2018.


Hochteil was convicted on a charge for sexual abuse: contact by forcible compulsion on Oct. 31, 2003, according to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services sex offender registry. Hochteil had forcible sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl on Nov. 2, 2002.
