The Newburgh City Council appointed Ronald Zorilla to the Conservation Advisory Council during last Monday’s council meeting.

“I just really quickly want to say that Ron Zorilla has been a very important member of the Downing Park Planning Committee for a couple of years,” said Councilwoman Patty Sofokles.

“I’m always looking for a new challenge,” wrote Zorilla on his website ronaldzorilla.com, “I joined the Board of Directors of the Downing Park Planning Committee to help steward this precious resource in Newburgh, NY and increase community access to our local park. Fun Fact: I got married in this park!”

Chuckling, Sofokles said, “Older members of Downing Park said we all need young blood to come in and revitalize the committee and he’s been just amazing with our website and everything.”

“I think his addition to the CAC is going to be equally good and I’m proud to vote to appoint him,” said Sofokles.

Mayor Torrance Harvey said he had an opportunity to meet him in February at the Shelterhouse Cafe.

“He’s really a go getter,” said Harvey. “So I definitely support this.”

Zorilla is director of operations for the Global Center For Social Entrepreneurship (GCSEN) Foundation, an organization aimed at teaching college students and adults how to turn their passion into a viable business. He is also founder and CEO for Outdoor Promise. An organization that offers programs “centered around equitable access for youth, families, and individuals that have been traditionally underrepresented in outdoor recreation.”
