New Windsor’s Republican Primary will see current Councilman Stephen A. Bedetti and former Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt face off as both seek the town supervisor position this coming fall. Early voting will take on June 17, and primary voting will take place on June 27, 2023. Bedetti enters the race for supervisor for a second bid, while Schmitt enters the race as a first time candidate. Current Supervisor George Meyers announced he would not run again for another term.

As an endorsed Republican, Bedetti will be running on the Republican line and Independent Line – New Windsor Strong (“NW Strong”). Patricia Clarino, seeking the Town Clerk position, and Charles Broe, seeking the Councilman position, will be running alongside Bedetti in the upcoming election. Both Clarino and Broe are also endorsed Republicans from the Town of New Windsor Republican Committee and will also appear on the New Windsor Strong – “NW Strong” line in November.

“As current Deputy Supervisor and Town Board member, I am running for Town Supervisor to continue serving the residents of New Windsor as I have for my entire adult life. We need to keep New Windsor moving in a positive direction! I am the only endorsed Republican candidate and unlike my opponent I have publicly stated I will never run for any elected office outside of New Windsor. Our town deserves a Supervisor fully committed to the job. My experience will ensure I hit the ground running on day one,” said Bedetti in a statement. “My roots run deep in this town. I was born here, raised my family here, and now my grandchild is being raised here. I have worked for the town for 34 years, currently as communications supervisor with the New Windsor Police. I have been an active member with the Vails Gate Fire Company for 39 years, and recently retired as a Town of Cornwall Police Officer after 23 years.”

Bedetti has received endorsements from the New Windsor Republican Committee, New Windsor Supervisor George J. Meyers, the New Windsor Police Benevolent Association, the New Windsor CSEA Local 7917, New Windsor Councilman Steven Moreau, New Windsor Receiver of Taxes Susan Scheible and former Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun. “These are endorsements from New Windsor organizations and elected officials who know I have the best interest of our town at heart,” said Bedetti.

Supervisor candidate Schmitt will be running this coming fall on the Conservative and Republican Lines for the upcoming election. Schmitt has received endorsements for his campaign from Highway Superintendent Anthony Fayo, former Deputy Town Supervisors Pat Mullarkey and Alice Biasotti, the State and County Conservative Parties, Orange County Right to Life, the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, the American Latino Coalition and the Westchester Corrections Officers Benevolent Association. Following the primary, Schmitt shared in a statement that he plans to run with a unified slate of Republican and Conservative party candidates.

“I am asking all New Windsor Republican voters for their support and vote on Primary Day, June 27, to be our next Town Supervisor. The Town of New Windsor needs new energized, competent leadership to secure its future. I have had the privilege to serve and represent my neighbors in New Windsor at the state and local level and now I am ready to step up and serve as Town Supervisor. With unmatched knowledge and experience to run local government I am ready on day one to run an effective, efficient and competent operation at Town Hall,” said Schmitt in a statement. “Each and every day that I serve as Town Supervisor I will put the interests of all New Windsor residents first. Using my unmatched experience in local government, I will work to deliver affordability through conservative fiscal management and taxpayer relief, economic development to fill our empty storefronts, public safety and preservation of our community and natural resources for every corner of our town. I also will not tolerate Biden, Hochul and Adams’ attempt to relocate illegal immigrants and migrants to New Windsor and have a plan to stop it. I am a proven leader for New Windsor delivering record tax relief from the state, local funding for roads and water infrastructure, repairs to our local rail crossings and new crosswalks in town, grant funding for Vails Gate Fire Department, building the all-inclusive playground at Kristi Babcock Memorial Park and so much more. I would be honored to represent our town.”

For New Windsor Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10 and 17, the polling place will be Ridgecrest Baptist Church at 519 Blooming Grove Turnpike in Vails Gate. For Districts 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19 and 22, the polling place will be the New Windsor Community Center at 555 Union Ave, New Windsor.
