Orvin S. Eckert, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. He was 91.

Son of the late Harry and Florence (Kelly) Eckert, he was born on March 26, 1932 in Margaretville, NY.

A longtime area resident, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Orvin was retired Class A Mechanic with the Wappingers Central School District. He later worked for the NYS Department of Transportation as a Motor Equipment Maintenance Supervisor in Hornell, NY and for the NYC Department of Environmental Conservation with equipment maintenance. He was a longtime member of the Margaretville Lodge #389 F&MA, Past Commander of Margaretville Post 216 American Legion, and member of Post 937 VFW, Newburgh and Town of Newburgh Post # 1420 American Legion. Orvin was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Anne S. (Griffin) Eckert; a son Dale (Faith) Eckert of Wallkill; six grandchildren, Cindy Harris Decker, Rebecca Harris Hulsey, David Eckert, Jerry Eckert and Jennifer Eckert; eight great grandchildren, Adrianna, Dylan, Devon, Aidon, Joshua, Noah, Dominic, and Zackery; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly Harris in 2002, and two brothers, Harry and Bud Eckert.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh.

A Funeral Service will be held, 11 am, Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at the Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Mossi officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor.
