Joan L. Perry, of Wallkill, has gone fishing on Friday, January, 28, 2022. She was 86.
Daughter of the late August and Hattie (Card) Perry, she was born on November 17, 1935 in Bronx, NY.

She was a retired photographer with Union Carbide, Sterling Forest, NY. Always young at heart, Joan was a devoted member, formidable force and mentor for the Pug Dog Club of America she served as a delegate, Awards Chairman, Judge and Election Ballot Counting Committee Chair. She joined the Club in 1969 along with her mother, Hattie Perry, and at Kings Hills Kennel had Pugs and Brussels Griffons. Joan’s show career began with her German Shepherds, both in conformation and obedience. As an AKC Licensed Handler, Joan showed Norwegian Elkhounds as well as other breeds. She was the founding member of the Shawangunk Kennel Club where she served as past Treasurer and was active with the Wallkill Kennel Club where she was awarded their Outstanding Sportsmanship Award. Joan was a fixture at Westminster and loved every minute of it with her friends. She enjoyed photography and earned many awards for her exhibitions at the Ulster and Orange County Fairs. Owning many dogs over the years, she was known to smuggle one of her favorites, “Dara” wherever she went tucked away in a large purse. She was also well known for her yard sales.

Survivors include her faithful companion “McGee”; her family, Patrick Bateman of Wallkill, Paul Bateman of Greenville, SC, Richard Bateman of Rutland, VT, and Marylee Bennett, of Nashville, TN; most special friends, Larry and Claudia Vandermark, Pat Vandermark, Tom and Donna Gates, Scott Stegall and Marge Baird.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a lifelong friend, Mary Ruth Bateman.

Private cremation has taken place at Cedar Hill Crematory.
