Asssemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-104) announced the arrival of a new ambulance for the Town of Newburgh Emergency Medical Services which was substantially funded by a $217,000 grant which he secured.

“I’m thrilled to see the new, shiny ambulance which I was able to fund with a $217,000 grant. This state-of-the-art ambulance, which includes a Stryker Powerload System that automatically raises and lowers a stretcher in and out of the ambulance and can carry up to 700 pounds, will make the job safer and easier. The Stryker Powerload System will help avoid costly and painful back injuries. This new ambulance will save money for the unit and the taxpayers,” said Jacobson.

The Town of Newburgh EMS handles over 4200 calls a year with more than 300 being ‘mutual aid’ calls. Mutual aid calls are those when the unit goes to areas outside the Town of Newburgh. Many calls are in the neighboring City of Newburgh.

The Town of Newburgh EMS was the second transporting unit at the scene of the tragic crash of the bus carrying a high school band from Long Island even though the crash occurred about 40 miles away on I-84. The unit was honored recently by Governor Kathy Hochul in Albany.

“We are deeply appreciative to Assemblymember Jacobson for this grant. Without this grant, we would not have been able to afford this new ambulance,” said Chief Bryan Williams.

“The old ambulance required constant, expensive repairs. We were too often left with only two working ambulances. We will now be able to serve the community better and more efficiently. With this new ambulance, we will certainly have fewer back injuries,” concluded Williams.
