Dorothy Alice Schorno, nee Trentch, died peacefully in the presence of her family on Monday, January 24, 2022.

Dorothy was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 19, 1930 to Kurt and Gertrude Trentch but was a resident of Newburgh, NY since the age of 2, where she lived in the same beloved home since a child. She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1948, and married her childhood sweetheart, Alfred Schorno, on June 9, 1951. They were married for 65 years until he predeceased her in November 2016.

Upon graduating from High School, Dottie worked as an office administrator, a job she held for various companies throughout the years. But she had an amazing acumen for business, and quickly became a “jack of all trades.” In time, she single-handedly managed the operations of the last company for which she worked, Hannah Service Fire Restoration, and eventually became its owner and President, a role she held for decades until she retired at the age of 74.

Although an accomplished businesswoman, she was an even more amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to innumerable people. Dottie will be remembered for her endless supply of greeting cards which she sent to family and friends, her love for gardening and feeding the birds, and her love for her pets over the years. But more than anything, she will be remembered for her incredible devotion to her family and friends. She loved them and was loved in return by them all.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Alfred; her brothers, Robert and Howard; and her grandson, Scott. She is survived by her son, Scott (wife, Carol); daughter, Sharon (husband, Greg); her grandchildren Sam and Anna Schorno, and Julia and Joshua Louks; and her great-grandchildren Emma, Hollie, and Meredith.

A Funeral Service was conducted at Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday, January 30. In lieu of flowers, we ask that any donations in her name be made to either St. Jude’s Children Hospital or the SPCA.
