Newburgh City Council approved on Monday, January 9 for the city to renew a cable franchise agreement with Spectrum Northeast LLC. A second public hearing was held on Monday night with no additional comments from the public.
This agreement will allow Spectrum to provide cable service and additional services to city residents and will allow the company to construct, extend and maintain required equipment, new or old, along with the Cable System. The duration of this agreement, stated on the city website, will be in place for 15 years. The agreement also states certain requirements and city regulations in terms of construction, equipment additions and remediation to municipal properties affected. This includes tree trimming and repairing of public ways. The Cable Service will provide service to its designated area as of now. The grantee [Spectrum] shall pay to the grantor [the city] an annual franchise fee. This amount will equal five percent of the annual gross revenue. The entire agreement is available on the city website for further clarification and public review.
