Ana Hilda Ramón, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Thursday, September 14, 2023. She was 85.

Daughter of the late Amelio Lopez and Maria Lebron, she was born on December 4, 1937 in Guayama, Puerto Rico.

Ana was a retired bi-lingual school teacher for the Newburgh Enlarged School District where she taught countless children for many years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Chapel for many years and was a co-founder of the Latinos Unidos organization in Newburgh. The oldest of 13 siblings, Ana lovingly served as the family matriarch. She was very independent and was her own guiding light. After coming to this country at age seven, she went on to build her life here, where she met her husband Pedro. She went on to raise four boys before returning to school to complete her high school  diploma, continuing on to earn both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Education. She spearheaded and lobbied the school district to create what is now their bi-lingual program for Spanish speakers.

She is survived by four sons: Peter N. Ramón, Jr. and his wife Gladys Vieux-Ramón of the Town of Newburgh, Edward Ramón and his wife Jill of Navarre, FL, Robert Ramón of New Windsor and David Ramón and his wife Peggy of West Point, VA; six siblings; eight grandchildren: Iris, Robert, Alicia, Anaïs, Jasmine, Amanda, Dylan and David; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, the late Pedro “El Primo” Ramón in 2017.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, September 18,at Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, Newburgh.
