A Livingston Manor man died Thursday after being struck by a tree he was cutting in the Town of Wallkill, police said.

Town of Wallkill officers responded around 1:30 p.m. to a wooded area near 38 Derby Road, where they found the 45-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive, according to police.

Authorities said the victim suffered serious chest and shoulder injuries. Police, along with the Howells Fire Department and Town of Wallkill EMS, performed CPR and other lifesaving measures, but the man was later pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation.
