Be reminded the Village of Walden continues to pick up live Christmas trees until January 21. All trees need to be placed curbside. Make sure they are cleared of all foreign material such as lights, decorations, etc.

Just received the December 2021 report from Xander Macri reflecting calls made by the Walden Fire Department: Pump Out: 1; Hazardous Condition - 2; Assist Fire - 1; Motor Vehicle Accidents -3; Wires Down - 2; Structure Fire - 4; Medical Call - 1 and Automatic Alarms -7. The grand total of all calls for 2021 is 298.

On January 5, 2021, John Revella, Walden’s Village Manager signed a Declaration of Local State of Emergency for the Village of Walden due to the Covid Pandemic for a 30 day period until rescinded by a subsequent order. Visit the Village website for full details.

Mike Bliss, President of Walden Rotary Club sends word that the remaining January meetings for Rotary will be held virtually.

Due to the fact that Basketball Games will not begin until February, there is still time to register for the Village of Walden Recreation and Parks Department Basketball Season! Register online at recreationsportssignup.com.

Boys and girls ages 6-18 in Valley Central School District may participate. Registration Cost: Village of Walden Residents: $40; Town of Montgomery residents: $50 - plus $3 registration fee. Games will begin in January. Locations: Wooster Grove Gym and Walden Elementary School gym.

Belated Happy Birthday wishes to Alexandra Jane Williamson, daughter of Tag and Jamet Williamson who celebrated her 13th birthday on January 7. Truly wishing her all life’s best!

Mason Bliss, son of Michael and Tara Bliss is looking forward to celebrating his 8th birthday on January 14. Mason’s sister, Michaela will celebrate her 6th birthday on January 19. It will be party time at the Bliss household!

Due to the State of Emergency order, the Walden Community Council in conjunction with the Harvest Fest Committee 2022 meeting scheduled to be held at the Josephine-Louise Public Library on Wednesday, January 12 was postponed until Wednesday, February 9.

The Harvest Fest meeting with Mike Bliss, Parks and Recreation Dept. Director begins at 6:30 a.m. The Community Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Why not make a New Years’ resolution to join in more Village activities, meet your neighbors and take pride in assisting others.

The next Village of Walden’s Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 18. Due to the Village State of Emergency signed by Village Manager Revella the meeting will be a zoom meeting.

Walden Community Council’s lottery calendars are available by calling me at (845) 778-7772 or stopping at the front desk at the Josephine-Louise Public Library.

The calendars sell for $20 each and are good for the NY lottery evening numbers drawn for every day of 2022 except Christmas Day. The prize money for the daily drawing is $25, Sunday’s prize is $40, holidays as marked on the calendars award $75, and New Year’s Eve is $100. The calendars make nice birthday gifts.

The Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden will hold their next indoor yard sale on Thursday, January 20, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.! Always great items to choose from. All purchases benefit the care of the animals at the shelter. Also a good time to bring a donation of food, litter, old towels or cleaning supplies. Need information?

Catholic Conversations will meet on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, 7 p.m. at the M. P. B Parish House to discuss “The Beatitudes” as taught to us by Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Mahjong Club still regularly meets every Monday morning 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. All skill levels are welcome.

“Magic - The Gathering Club” will meet on Saturday, January 15, 2 p.m.

The “Novel Reads” book pick of the month is New York Dead by Stuart Woods. The book group will meet on Thursday, January 20, 6:30 p.m. Copies of the book are located at the Main Desk.

Pick up a copy of the Library Scavenger Hunt. Without using the card catalog, complete the tasks, present the completed card to a librarian and receive a prize!

Winter StoryTime and Family Book Club registration will begin January 18. The programs are currently planned for February. Any changes will be posted in this column or on our Facebook page.

Fun facts: Milk was delivered for the first time in glass bottles in 1880. Chocolate Cake Day is January 27. Have a glass of milk, a piece of cake and celebrate Grandfather’s Day on January 22! Pick up our calendar this month for more fun facts!

The library will be closed on Monday, January 17, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
