Wawarsing Turnpike and Jenny Lane Snowshoe

Minnewaska State Park Preserve

Posted
Join Nick Martin, Park Educator, for a snowshoe hike on some of the lesser-travelled sections of the Lake Minnewaska area on this approximately five-mile outing. Leaving from the Lower Parking Area, we will follow Wawarsing Turnpike to the west until it intersects Jenny Lane Footpath, which we'll follow until it intersects Blueberry Run Footpath. From here, we'll take a short section of Blueberry Run to Lower Awosting Carriage Road, which will take us back to our starting point. While scenic views are limited on this outing, it traverses beautiful sections of forest and two thin, clear mountain streams. This outing includes a few sustained uphill and downhill sections and two stream crossings that may be challenging for some. A limited number of snowshoes are available for participants to borrow for this program from the Education Department. Please plan to arrive by 9:10 a.m. if you will be borrowing snowshoes. If there is insufficient snow cover, this program will be offered as a hike and participants are highly encouraged to bring along microspikes. All visitors, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask when inside buildings. All unvaccinated participants are encouraged to wear face coverings and keep a minimum six-foot distance away from others who are not part of their immediate household when outside. Meet in the Lower Parking Area. Pre-registration is required by calling Minnewaska at 845-255-0752.
