The Wallkill Area senior baseball team had a long day at Watts Park, playing a doubleheader that saw them open the day with a 1-0 win over Middletown to advance to the championship game against Town of Newburgh-New Windsor.

Wallkill Area’s season ended in their second game of the day, an 8-2 loss.

Newburgh took control early posting five runs in the first two innings. Jadin O’Neill led off the bottom of the first inning with a single. He advanced on a throwing error by Wallkill pitcher Mike Bonagura and then stole third base. That put him in position to score on Mike Paretta’s base hit, who also came round to score.

Newburgh-New Windsor added three more runs in the second inning O’Neill’s RBI double, Paretta’s second RBI single. Nick Shala reached on an error to score Newburgh’s third run of the inning.

Newburgh-New Windsor added two runs in the fifth when Bonagura walked two batters and hit a third to load the bases with one out. He gave way to Tyler Mack, who walked Dan Decker and hit Rob Lennon to force in two more runs.

C.J. Robell accounted for both of Wallkill’s runs in the second game with a two-run double. Wallkill Area loaded the bases with one out in the sixth inning, but Aaron Baker grounded into a double play to end the inning.

The 14U Cobras continued to win in the Greater Hudson Baseball League with three wins, sweeping a doubleheader from the Redhawks and posting a win over the Dirtbags Platinum.

The 16U Mayhem also picked up three wins, sweeping a doubleheader from the Shrub Oak Tigers and beating the Blue Sox.

The 10U Wallkill team lost to the Marlboro Marlins and the 12U team was beaten by the Poughkeepsie Vikings.

The 11U Pine Bush Rebels were swept by the O.C. Smash and the 13U team battled the MP Colonials to a tie.
