Walden hosts many holiday events this season

Tis the season to be jolly and join in many Village activities.

The Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden will hold their next indoor yard sale on Saturday, December 3, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. All purchases benefit the care of the animals at the shelter. Please also bring a donation of food, litter, old towels, bleach and cleaning supplies. Need information? Call the shelter at 845-778-7115.

The Walden Rotary Club members, family and friends send Happy Birthday wishes to Kevin Cannon on December 8 and thank him for all he does for this great organization.

On December 4, Hudson Valley St. Baldrick’s is hosting a Holiday Craft Fair at the Walden Fire House from 12 - 4 p.m. For information call Tina at 845-313-8648 or Kristie at 845-629-3444.

Kristie is also hosting a Toy Drive for Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley. Items can be dropped off to Paul Congelosi Trailer Sales Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. or Saturday 8 - 11 a.m. or call Kristie for other arrangements at 845-620-3444.

The drive continues until December 10.

Take note of upcoming Holiday Events in Walden - The Walden Historical Society invites you to attend a wine and cheese Open House on Saturday, December 3, 7 - 9 p.m. at the historic Jacob T. Walden House and an Open House Tea Social on Sunday, December 4, 1 - 4 p.m. Enjoy listening to the music of Kevin Cronin on the guitar in front of the fireplace while sipping a hot cup of tea. Both events are free.

The Walden United Methodist Church Fundraiser at Franco’s Italian Pizzeria is scheduled for Tuesday, December 6, 5 - 9 p.m. take out only. A percentage of your meal purchase will be donated to the Church. A coupon must be submitted to participate.

Wreaths are on the lamp posts in preparation of the holiday season. Christmas in the Square featuring Santa’s arrival and Tree lighting will take place on Thursday, December 8 at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy a musical performance by Kevin Cronin.

At 6:50 p.m. view the live nativity of the Freedom Road Bible Church; the New York School of Music will perform Christmas Carols at 7:10 p.m.; at 7:30 p.m. you will be entertained by the Walden Elementary School Choir and Santa will arrive at 7:50 p.m. for the Tree lighting.

Free hot chocolate will be provided by Thruway Ace Hardware. Walden PTO will provide Arts & Crafts in the Square. Operation Dalmatian will attend and requests you bring an unopened gift to donate for their toy drive.

After the event, all are welcome to visit St. Andrew’s Hall for a free picture with Santa and refreshments provided by the Walden Women’s Club and the Walden Community Council.

Courtney Stafford sends word that the Valley Central All Night Grad Committee is hosting a Night Out with Intuitive Deborah Hanlon on Wednesday, December 14, at the Walden Fire House, 230 Old Orange Avenue, Walden.

The Walden Community Council will meet at the Jacob T. Walden House, 34 No. Montgomery Street on Wednesday, December 14 at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend and join in the many activities this great organization provides.

The New Rose Theatre, 35 East Main Street, Walden presents “The Nutcracker” on December 15 at 7 p.m.; December 16, 7 p.m.; December 17, 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets start at $18. This production is not to be missed. For information call 845-778-2478.

Walden’s Community Council will hold a Home Decorating Contest that includes all Walden Homes. Judging will be December 18 from 6 - 9 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place based on creativity, arrangement, special effects and overall appearance. Walden Community Council is also asking all businesses in Walden to decorate their business storefronts for their “Make Walden A Hallmark Movie” contest! There will be one prize for the best decorated business overall. Business storefronts must be decorated by December 4. Judging will be on December 21. As we move into the holiday season, we hope you will bring your little ones to the library for a “Toddler Holiday Tea Party” on Tuesday, December 6, 10:30 a.m. for ages 3 - 5. Our next Family Program will be creating a “Paper Gingerbread House Garland” on Wednesday, December 14, 4:30 p.m. Make a decorative paper garland while snacking on some gingerbread cookies!

The library’s monthly Art Club will meet on Wednesday, December 7, at 4:30 p.m. Dungeons & Dragons for Teens will meet on Friday, December 2, 5 - 8 p.m. “Magic” The Gathering Club for Teens will meet on Saturday, December 3, 2 - 4 p.m.
