Town of Montgomery seeks a return of National Night Out

Posted

Neighbors in Shawangunk, Crawford and Newburgh enjoyed National Night Out last week, but the event hasn’t been held in the Town of Montgomery since 2018. Town of Montgomery Supervisor Brian Maher hopes to change that.

Maher said last week that he’d like to see the three villages stage the event annually on a rotating basis. He planned to include funds in the town budget to resume the event next year.

The Walden Police Department hosted the event for several years at Bradley Park. More recently the Town of Montgomery Police Department held it at Valley Central High School, but Maher said it should be held in one of the three villages each year.

“My opinion is for the population centers to host it,” Maher said.

His plan called for the town to provide funds, but that the host department could also raise funds to be used towards the event.

Maher said he will approach the mayors of Walden, Montgomery and Maybrook with the idea.
