The Pine Bush girls’ lacrosse team has reached the Section 9 Class A championships for the second straight season, and for the second straight season, the Kingston Tigers stood in its way.

Pine Bush fell behind early on its way to a 17-2 loss in Wednesday’s section championship game at James I. O’Neill High School.

“Kingston’s a really great team,” Pine Bush coach Caitlin Murphy said. “I’m just happy to even get here, and we have a great group of seniors. We just played for them today and did the best we could.”

Pine Bush will lose half its roster with seniors Brigid Boyle, Grace Dufy, goalkeeper Mollie Harris, Katie Holmes, Antonia Licardi, Cora Mance, Ella Meberg and Amanda Watkins graduating.

However, they will return key underclassmen such as Sophia Licardi, a sophomore, who scored both of Pine Bush’s goals.

“We have some really good underclassmen and upper classmen coming back, and I want them to remember this moment going forward,” Murphy said. “I want them to keep this in the back of their head for the big games to come.”

Pine Bush reached the championship game by defeating Monroe-Woodbury, 13-2, on May 23 at Pine Bush Elementary School.

Sophia Licardi had four goals, and Sam Budney had three goals. Sara Barry had two goals and an assist and Ella Meberg had two goals, Antonia Licardi had a goal and two assists. Boyle had a goal.

Mackenzie Brown had two assists, and Amanda Watkins had one.

However, the tables were turned on Pine Bush in Wednesday’s championship game as Kingston took a 7-0 lead before Antonia Licardi’s first goal, put Pine Bush on the board.

Kingston’s Ryleigh Purvis answered with a goal, before Licardi scored her second goal with 7:22 left in the first half to cut the lead to 8-2.

It was the last goal Pine Bush would score on the season as the Kingston defense held them scoreless the rest of the way.

Hannah Timbrouck led Kingston with five goals and one assist, and Arianna Burns had three goals and two assists. Donatella DeCicco, and Reese Longo each had a goal and an assist, while Delisianna Naccarato and Brooke Longo each scored a goal.

Lily Zito had two goals, Abby Kresser had a goal and Chause DeLisio had an assist.

“I’m so proud, honestly,” Murphy said. “They’ve had a lot of fun and they improved tremendously. I’m just excited to see where we go from here. I’m happy to be a part of this team.”
