Montgomery to honor First Responders

Having previously honored Veterans, the Village of Montgomery is now planning a ceremony to honor the area’s First Responders.

On Friday, August 26 at 6 p.m., the village will dedicate First Responders Way, at the corner of Tompkins and Goodwill Road.

“Where everybody else is defunding the police and the First Responders, we’re going to do that. We honor them,” said Trustee Mike Hembury, who brought the idea to the village board.

“First Responders Corner will have two large flags on telephone poles as you approach the intersection of Goodwill Road and Tompkins Road in the village,” Hembury said. “My wife and I thought of this idea and I presented to the board and they were all for it. I want to honor all the first responders that stepped up to the plate during the pandemic and every day of the year.”

He said police, firefighters, doctors, nurses and EMS personnel would be invited to the ceremony, in which miniature flags would be handed out to all attendees.
