Maher bill seeks to ban displacement of homeless Vets

Posted

Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C-Walden) is introducing legislation to prohibit the displacement of homeless veterans once placed in housing so long as they continue to meet any necessary criteria. Advocates and workers reported to Maher that homeless veterans were being removed from their shelter housing in order to accommodate the migrants being bused to New York state.

“The failure of the federal government to better manage the migrant crisis is hurting the very people who served and protected this county in the military. It has been reported to me that homeless veterans are being displaced from their shelter housing to accommodate migrants,” said Maher. “I am introducing a bill that would prohibit the displacement of homeless veterans from shelters or supportive housing. “
