Crawford says ‘thanks’ to departing town officials

The town of Crawford officially bid farewell to three town officials whose last board meeting was last week. Two are retiring, the other is taking her talents to Goshen.

Larry Marshall is retiring as the town’s highway superintendent on Dec. 31. He was not there, last Thursday, to receive a plaque of appreciation from Town Supervisor Charles Carnes, but newly-elected Highway Superintendent John Yarosz was in the audience. He takes over on January 1.

Also on hand for their final board meeting were Deputy Supervisor Daniel Flanick and Councilwoman Kelly Eskew.

“Dan and Kelly have done unbelievable things for the town of Crawford,” Carnes said, noting that both have served the town for two decades and helped navigate the town through a bankrupt sewer system and many improvements, including the establishment of Pine Bush as a local tourism destination.

Flanick chose not to run for re-election. He will be replaced on the board by Jason Muehr who was elected to the board in November.

Eskew, who has served as a council member since 2017, was recently elected Orange County Clerk. She served as Crawford Town Clerk from 2002 to 2013 before becoming the deputy county clerk in 2014. She submitted a letter of resignation to her town board seat that becomes effective Dec. 31.

Both were presented with certificates of appreciation from Carnes and Orange County Legislator Rob Sassi.
