When Abraham Lincoln was in office he dedicated the last Thursday in November Thanksgiving Day in 1863. That is when it became a National Holiday. Every President since Lincoln also dedicated Thanksgiving Day as a National Holiday. In 1941 Congress officially set the national date of Thanksgiving as the last Thursday in November. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

All who attended the Walden P. B. A. Senior Pasta Dinner on November 12 thank P. B. A. President Craig Duda and his fellow officers for hosting this special event. Thanks too to the Fox Hill choir for providing musical entertainment and delicious desserts. A good time was had by all.

The P.B.A. is also partaking in “No Shave November”. You will notice many of the Police Officers are currently endowed with facial hair. Money raised for No Shave November was vested in the Senior Dinner.

The Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden, will hold their next indoor yard sale on Saturday, December 3, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

All purchases benefit the care of the animals at the shelter. Please also bring a donation of food, litter, old towels, bleach and cleaning supplies. Need information? Call the shelter at 845-778-7115.

Sandy Magill sends hugs, kisses and Happy Birthday wishes to her beautiful granddaughter Sadie Evans Magill who celebrates her special birthday on November 22. Nonna loves you!

Walden Sunshine members, family and friends send Happy Birthday wishes to Yvonne Morettti who will celebrate her special day on November 29. We thank her for all she does for others.

The First Reformed Church, 70 Scofield Street, Walden invites all to a “Hanging of the Greens” event on Sunday, November 27. This free event includes: at 3 p.m., children make ornaments and chains, hanging of wreaths, pine roping and hanging of boxwood stars; 5 p.m. a Ziti supper; and 6 p.m., a Tree Decorating Service.

Take note of upcoming Holiday Events in Walden - The Walden Historical Society invites you to attend a wine and cheese Open House on Saturday, December 3, 7 - 9 p.m. at the historic Jacob T. Walden House, and an Open House Tea Social on Sunday, December 4, 1 - 4. p.m. Enjoy listening to the music of Kevin Cronin on the guitar in front of the fireplace while sipping a hot cup of tea. Both events are free.

Wreaths are on the lamp posts in preparation of the holiday season. Christmas in the Square featuring Santa’s arrival will take place on Thursday, December 8 at 6:30 p.m. Details next week.

Walden’s Community Council will hold a Home Decorating Contest that includes all Walden homes. Judging will be December 18 from 6 - 9 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, based on creativity, arrangement, special effects and overall appearance. Walden Community Council is also asking all businesses in Walden to decorate their business storefronts for their “Make Walden A Hallmark Movie” contest! There will be one prize for the best decorated business over all. Business storefronts must be decorated by December 4, 2022. Judging will be on December 21.
