Celebration of Marion Borden is planned in Wallkill

Planning efforts will soon be underway to celebrate the life of Marion Borden.

“Marion Borden was the beacon of light in the hamlet of Wallkill. As time passes, her accomplishments and impact in Wallkill are virtually unknown except for the diligence of the Historical Society of Shawangunk and Gardiner and the caretakers of the School of Practical Philosophy,” says Adrienne Gelfand-Perine. “We are going to change that.’

On Wednesday, June 8, a group of artists, local historians, feminists, and other interested residents will gather to brainstorm and move forward with plans to bring attention to Marion Borden. The project began two years ago as COVID was taking hold, but organizers are determined to give Marion the spotlight. Using the arts as a vehicle, they are hoping to develop plans to raise funds to create something unique.

If you are interested in this endeavor, come to the meeting on Wednesday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Court Room in Shawangunk Town Hall. If you want more information, call Adrienne at 845 895-8712.
