Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site presents a Donald “Doc” Bayne lecture, The Chain That Saved the Colonies, on Saturday, June 15 at 2 p.m. To stop the British invasion of the New England colonies during the American Revolution, Peter Townsend manufactured a Great Chain for the Continental Army at Sterling Forest. It was placed across the Hudson River at West Point.
Please join, a former Park Ranger and Environmental Educator, and currently President of the Friends of Sterling Forest State Park, for a presentation on how he discovered the forge that made the Great Chain in Sterling Forest. Doc will share the history of the iron industry that started in 1736 at Sterling Forest, and how the Sterling Forge was used to create the Great Chain that was placed across the Hudson River at West Point.
This lecture is free with admission of $7 for adults, $5 for seniors or students, and children aged 12 or under are admitted free of charge. Cash and Checks accepted.

Newburgh Musical Markets on Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. in partnership with the Newburgh Farmers Market, Safe Harbors Green will be filled with music every Saturday this summer. From live percussionists to acoustic guitar to DJs, drop in for a free afternoon concert starting at 11 a.m. and support local farmers and vendors.
On Saturday, June 8, Chapman Steamer Arts presents Arts in the Park at the Downing Park Shelter House, with The Trio SuWaSa Bassist Christopher Dean Sullivan, Pianist /Vocalist Mala Waldron and Drummer Bobby Sanabria. The concert is from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
