The Wallkill girls’ soccer team had a busy week last week, playing four games in the space of five days.
The Panthers got off to a strong start posting wins over Highland and Marlboro before they ran into unbeaten Red Hook on Wednesday. They finished the week with a tie against the FDR Presidents.

The Panthers opened a crucial week in their schedule with a 6-0 win over the Highland Huskies on Oct. 4.
Lainey Flanagan put the Panthers on the board in the 21st minute when she redirected a corner kick from Emma DiLemme past Highland goalkeeper Aaliyah Ghafoor for a 1-0 lead.

About 7 minutes later, Gianna Degiorgio, blasted a shot into the top right corner of the goal to give Wallkill a 7-0 lead.

Wallkill put the game away with four more goals in the second half.

In the 48th minute, a Highland handball penalty in the box gave Lilla Rydell a penalty kick, which she converted for a 3-0 lead.

Flanagan’s second goal gave Wallkill a 4-0 lead with about 10 minutes to go and three minutes later, Brianna Merrill gave the Panthers a 5-0 lead.

The Panthers added a sixth goal of the game with about 4 minutes left in the game.

The Panthers followed the win over Highland with a 7-2 win over the Marlboro Dukes.

Then they played their third game in as many days, falling, 3-2, to Red Hook on Wednesday.
Katie Boyd scored two goals for the Raiders and Ani Safaryan had a goal and an assist. Makeda Brodie had an assist and Morgan Tompkins made three saves for unbeaten Red Hook.

Brianna Merrill scored both of Wallkill’s goals and Madelyn Jachimiak had four saves.

The Panthers had a much needed off day on Thursday before they traveled to Hyde Park and battled the FDR Presidents to a 1-1 tie on Friday.

The Panthers (5-4-2, 4-2-2 MHAL) have three more games scheduled this week as they were scheduled to open the week Tuesday with a non-league game at Ellenville before traveling to Saugerties on Wednesday.

They will finish the regular season on Friday at home against New Paltz.
