Wallkill address CSEA concerns of mice in high school

Posted

Over several dozen members of the Wallkill Civil Service Employees Association [CSEA] appeared before the Wallkill Board of Education on Wednesday, November 16 to address concerns about mice in Wallkill Senior High School.

A district employee stated before the public that she and her co-workers had caught and disposed of mice in the Wallkill Senior High School building, with traps purchased by the staff members since April of this year. The situation was brought forward to the building principal, vice principal and other district staff and an email was also stated to have been sent to an administrator in July 2022.

Wallkill Superintendent of Schools Kevin Castle provided a statement on the situation following the meeting: “We’ll continue to work with our pest management company and our custodial staff to mitigate the concerns the employee has regarding her office space. The board as a whole became aware of her concern that evening,” stated Castle. “A district administrator learned of her concern two weeks ago and responded by having a pest management company assess the situation and attempt to mitigate her concern. While I have not received any concerns of other buildings, we can’t rule out the possibility of mice being in our facilities. And it’s why we contract with a pest management company to proactively mitigate possible issues.”
