A plastic Easter egg found on Walden’s West Main Street, contained traces of a substance found in marijuana, Walden Police reported Saturday.

Police reported receiving a call Saturday after the egg was found on West Main Street, near the municipal parking lot.

The plastic egg, upon opening, contained a small package inside which field tested positive for the presence of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the substance that’s primarily responsible for the effects of marijuana on a person’s mental state.

Police said that none of the eggs distributed earlier at the annual Village of Walden Easter egg hunt contained any foreign substances. The staff of the Walden Recreation Department, which conducts the egg hunt, was aware of the incident and, according to police took every precaution to ensure that the confined areas of the egg hunt and all of the eggs were checked for safety prior to the event taking place.

No arrests were reported.
