Walden Diner closes its doors

After 22 years of serving up good food and great memories, the owners of the Walden Diner closed the eatery on Sept. 12.

The owners announced on the diner’s Facebook page that it is time to retire and begin the next chapter of their lives.

“We have many great memories here at the diner,” the owners told customers on the restaurant’s Facebook page. “Memories that we’ll treasure forever. And we’re so grateful for being able to serve you, our friends and family, and create those wonderful memories. We will miss each and every one of you.”

Many Walden residents were sad to see the diner go, including Walden Trustee Lynn Thompson.

“It’s been a staple in the village for so many years,” she said. “Everybody knows everybody from the diner.”

Thompson always enjoyed bringing her children to the diner. Whenever they went there they always found someone they knew, which helped spark great conversations. Waiters and waitresses were personable and could always remember a customer’s name.

“It was just a very nice, local place to go,” Thompson said. “The food was good. The prices were very reasonable.”

She added that the restaurant was family-friendly, as there was something on the menu for everyone.

“It was just a really fun place to go. A warm, friendly atmosphere all the time,” Thompson said. “I’d be thrilled if we got another diner to replace this diner. It would be wonderful.”

Becky Pearson, former mayor of the Village of Walden, was also disappointed that the diner closed.

“It’s a sad day for Walden,” she said. “It was kind of a community center. It was where people met, you had parties there… It will be missed.”

Customers will miss the Walden Diner and owner Savas Karasaridis noted that he will miss them too.

“It was something different every day,” he said regarding interacting with the customers. “Talking to them about food, about what they’re doing, how they’re doing. The customers that’s what I’ll miss most.”
