The Montgomery Senior Citizens Advisory Board hosted its annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon on Nov. 14 at the Maybrook Senior Center, welcoming about 100 local veterans, their families, and community leaders to a celebration of service and sacrifice.
The event, with lunch catered by T&M Deli, was made possible through the support of the Village of Maybrook. Volunteers joined the Advisory Board to serve meals to attendees, expressing gratitude for the veterans’ service. “We are honored to serve you lunch, as you once served us all in a much more profound way,” board members shared during the event.
Prominent community leaders attended in support, including Jim Barnett, who delivered welcoming remarks on behalf of the village, and Nico Marzouka, representing New York State Sen. Rob Rolison of the 39th District. Other notable attendees included Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus, Town of Montgomery Supervisor Steve Brescia, Village of Walden Mayor John Ramos, and Ann Marie Maglione, director of the Orange County Office for the Aging. Former Valley Central School District teacher and administrator Bob Schoonmaker served as the event’s guest speaker.
The luncheon also honored four Gold Star parents, recognizing their sacrifice as part of the day’s themes of remembrance and patriotism. A special moment came when two centenarian World War II veterans, Tony Marano and Romeo Zaccone, who served in the South Pacific, were celebrated with a birthday cake provided by ShopRite of Montgomery. Attendees also enjoyed cookies distributed by “Operation Cookie Walk - Heart of the Hudson,” courtesy of local Girl Scouts.
“Patriotism was on full display,” the Advisory Board noted, calling the event a success and a meaningful tribute. They thanked the Village of Maybrook for its ongoing support in continuing this cherished tradition.
