Tractor Parade returns to Montgomery

The annual Village of Montgomery Tractor Parade returned Saturday after last year’s event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Montgomery residents turned out in droves to watch tractors of all makes and models drive down Union and Clinton Streets.

“You see the crowd, it’s one of the biggest ever,” said Village of Montgomery Mayor Steve Brescia. “Over 200 tractors.”

This parade is the brainchild of Norbury “Skip” Chambers, owner of Chamber’s Tractor Sales Inc., and the local farming community.

“Oh it’s huge,” Brescia said regarding what the parade means to the community. “Skip Chambers is the main organizer and his family business has been here for over 150 years… We’re losing more of this and it’s really a piece of Americana that we have here. We’re so proud of it and the job that he [Chambers] does.”

Brescia added that farming is on the decline and the parade helps reenergize the industry.

Montgomery Town Supervisor Brian Maher also underscored the importance of the parade.

“The tractor parade is a great tradition here in the Town and Village of Montgomery,” he said. “It’s something that a lot of people look forward to every year, so with everything going on and COVID hitting us even harder lately, it’s just great to be out here in an outdoor setting being safe and enjoying everyone’s company.”

This was Kennedy O’Brien’s first time attending the tractor parade and he greatly enjoyed himself.

“I love seeing the community come out,” said O’Brien, a resident of the Town of Montgomery. “I love having that community involvement and it’s really cool just to have a nice first of fall weekend day out here.”
