Town, village water rates increase with next bills

Posted

When you get your Highland Falls, or Town of Highlands, water bills at the beginning of November, be aware that not only the rate, but how the amount of water you use, is billed.

Highland Falls property owners: Beginning November 1, the new rate for water is $132.50 for the first 7500 gallons you use. The previous rate was $95 for the first 5000 gallons. For every 1000 gallons you use after 7500, the rate is $4.93.

Fort Montgomery property owners: The new rate is $220 for the first 7500 gallons, up from $161 for the first 5000 gallons. The rate for every 1000 gallons used after 7500 is $7.84. (It should be noted, the Town adds a surcharge to water bills. The new rate the village bills the town is $198.75 for the first 7500 gallons, up from $142.50 per 5000 gallons.)

The increase in the rates, Highland Falls Deputy Mayor Jim DiSalvo said in May, is due to needed infrastructure work in the Water Plant and water infrastructure. Highland Falls provides Fort Montgomery with its water.
