Town renews CCA agreement for Fort Montgomery

Posted

If you are interested in finding out more about the ‘Town of Highlands Electricity Supply Program’, plan to attend a Thursday, Dec. 12 in person or Zoom session on the topic.

Town Councilman Joe DeWitt announced that the town has renewed its agreement with Joule Community Power, a Community Choice Aggregate (CCA) electricity program, which “gives residents the choice to participate in a renewable energy program without the burden of cost or contract”.

This pertains to residents/business owners in the town outside of Highland Falls – mostly Fort Montgomery. Leadership in Highland Falls has not yet made any announcement about its 2025 participation in the CCA.

From a flyer advertising the upcoming meeting:
“The Town of Highlands is participating in an electricity supply contract which will provide eligible residents and small businesses with the benefits of 50 percent renewable electricity supply at competitive rates. This CCA program enables municipal leaders to leverage the purchasing power of residents and small businesses to negotiate competitive rates for their electricity supply, protect consumers and support renewable generation sources.”

The program began in the town in 2023. It originated as an ‘opt-out’ program; DeWitt said those who have already opted out will remain that way. Should those electricity account owners want back into the program, the contact information below can be used to get information on how to do that. As well, the flyer notes that eligible residents and businesses will receive a letter in mid-March with information about the program, including how to opt out.

The in-person location for the meeting is Town Hall, 254 Main St., Highland Falls, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12. The Zoom meeting can be accessed at www.bit.ly/high1212 or by calling 1-929-205-6099 and using meeting ID 878 3584 5457.
