Orange County Sheriff Paul Arteta and Chief William Herlihy announced the arrest of three individuals for the sale of crack cocaine in the Village of Walden following a multi-agency investigation.
Members of the Walden Police Department and the Orange County Drug Task Force investigated a complaint of narcotics activity at a public location in Walden, leading to the discovery of a group storing crack cocaine and other drugs at a home in the Hamlet of Wallkill. The drugs were then transported to Walden, where they were sold openly.
On Thursday, Oct. 3, members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Village of Walden Police, and Town of Shawangunk Police executed search warrants and arrested all three individuals.
Charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance are Michael Gonzales, 76, of Walden; Jerry Eberhart, 60, of Wallkill; and Lori Wyegant, 48, of Wallkill. All three were released with appearance tickets for future court dates.
“This successful operation underscores our unwavering commitment to combating drug activity and ensuring the safety of our community,” said Arteta. “We are grateful for the collaboration and support from all the agencies involved.”
Herlihy added, “The successful conclusion of this operation reflects our officers' hard work and dedication and the exceptional cooperation between multiple law enforcement agencies. Together, we are making our communities safer.”
Arteta and Herlihy extended their gratitude to the Town of Shawangunk Police, Orange County District Attorney, Ulster County District Attorney, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, and Village of Walden Department of Public Works for their assistance.
