To help prepare for the 98th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade that was held in New York City on Thanksgiving Day, the Fort Montgomery Elementary School first grade and K/2 classes held their fourth annual “Balloons Over the Fort” parade the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The tradition was inspired by the book Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of the Macy’s Parade, by Melissa Sweet.

The parade took place through the halls of the Highland Falls Intermediate School, with all of the building’s students, teachers and administrators, and many parents and grandparents lining the ‘streets’ … a special treat during it was the playing of ‘parade tunes’ by members of the HFIS Band, under the direction of Amina Thomas.
