Early October Senator James Skoufis announced that he secured a commitment from Central Hudson to clean up and remove graffiti from utility boxes in the City of Newburgh. This is just one of Skoufis’ efforts to help his Senate District look cleaner.
The cleanup plan began over the summer when Skoufis’ team traveled throughout the city helping identify utility boxes, poles and other locations with graffiti or tags on them. A list was then sent to Central Hudson and asked that they commit to cleaning up the sites.
The locations of utility boxes that needed to be cleaned up included Unico Park, 2nd Street, South Water Street, Renwick Street and Cerone Place.
“The beautification of our communities uplifts both residents and small business owners because when our streets are clean and our environment is healthy, we all win,” said Senator Skoufis. “I thank Central Hudson for agreeing to this commitment and I look forward to working to continue implementing these types of initiatives in our communities.”
Other cleanup initiatives by Skoufis and his team include the cleaning and painting of Xavier Lunan Park in September. Additionally, over the summer Skoufis and his team partnered with Outdoor Promise, a nonprofit organization that works with communities to promote environmental protection, to clean up and paint Downing Park in the City of Newburgh.
Since the commitment from Central Hudson, they have cleaned all of the utility boxes that were identified earlier.
“I’m delighted to report that Central Hudson has cleaned up these utility boxes and poles - each item on our list has been resolved,” said Skoufis. “I thank Central Hudson for being partners in this effort and look forward to implementing more of these kinds of initiatives in our communities.”
