School district remains silent on Padilla status

Posted

Dr. Roberto Padilla, superintendent of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District has been on a paid leave of absence since the start of the school year, following allegations of improper conduct towards a female district employee at a conference in San Diego earlier in the year.

To date, no public comments have been made by anyone in the district regarding his status.

A resolution to reinstate him did not pass during the regular Newburgh Board of Education meeting on October 12.

Without being mentioned by name, the resolution was brought forth by board member Mark Levinstein towards the end of the meeting. The resolution called for reinstatement of the superintendent effective October 13.

Since then, district officials have not responded to requests for information on Padilla’s status. He continues to collect his salary of $295,000 per year plus benefits.
